At first I thought this was a very noisy record, but then I realized that it was just static noise, so I had to wet clean it before playing for the first time, and after that all the noise went away. Reflecting the austere, industrial backdrop of their home city of Malmö, the trio have soaked up influences of dub, kosmische and world music on ‘Flicker’ and subjugate them to their dream pop aesthetic. As much as this is a modern sounding and forward-looking record, it’s also very much about looking back, something that is clear from the first glimpse of the front cover – a previously unseen outtake from Joe Dilworth’s photo sessions for the inner sleeve of Ride’s debut album, ‘Nowhere’. The album was preceded by three chart topping singles, “This Town”, “Slow Hands” and “Too Much to Ask”. Housed in a beautifully austere post-ironic de-constructed sleeve; ‘Flicker’ is a modern reflection on these difficult times. However this was quickly solved and I received the vinyl a few days later after a lovely message exchange.I'll still give it 5/5 stars because of the sound quality which is very nice and dynamic, but I absolute hate when records come without an anti-static sleeve. Line of Best Fit said, "He's shed his squeaky clean onesie and donned a crooner coat, giving us one of the coolest, catchiest choruses of 2017 in the process. I remember looking for this album on record for the longest time, and when I finally found it I was very excited. He gradually overcame these after the passing of David Bowie in 2016, with the Thin White Duke’s bountiful 50 years of music providing inspiration from beyond the grave.

His debut Platinum single "This Town," released in the fall of 2016, has sold more than three million units globally. Flicker is more than just an album, it's a journey through Horan's unique blend of folk-inspired pop and rock. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Soaking up soundtracks from the 60s and 70s, listening to library music, kosmiche, French Ye-ye pop and 60s psych, Marleen Nilsson, Anders Hansson and Magnus Bodin were fashioned by the city’s austere industrial past and flat pack present, and all in the shadow of the Orsesund Bridge that links their dreamworld to mainland Europe and a darker reality. Horan told Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 Radio show that the album's title track, "Flicker", means the most to him and "was a very poignant moment in the recording process", to the extent that "it changed the way I recorded the rest of the album". Written almost as a conversation with his teenage self, it follows the triumphant solo debut that was 2020’s The View From Halfway Down. I love the album and am making some deep grooves in Way of the World, Riverside, Sidewinder and This is Our Year.
